Hello, and thanks for your interest in in NewsToYou!
We'd like to take just a second of your time to help you determine whether NewsToYou is
going to be of any use to you. We don't want to waste your time with something that won't
work for you.
First off, you need a fast connection to the internet, DSL, Cable, T1, or better. It can
be run on a 56k line, but it's not our recommendation.
Next, you need a fast machine, with lots of memory. If you have any doubts here, please see
our system requirements page.
You must have a Java-capable browser. We use Java due to the promise of cross-platform computing, a
necessary ingredient for the "grid" model. We think certain large evil empires should support the
commitments they made to the language.
Our system requires a little bit of time to use. It's not like AltaVista, Google, or any of
the other search engines out there. You can't just pop in, put in a new word, and get results.
It might be thought of as a real-time content scanner, not a search engine as such. You set
up multiple sets of criteria, quite complex if desired, and it watches certain areas of the
net for pages that match those items. It is far more powerful than "search engines", but takes
a little more time to understand and use.
It remembers your searches, and sets you up with those same searches next time you log in.
